Worked in the CVICU; staff was friendly and ratios are mandated 1:1 or 1:2. Travelers can get floated but it depends on census, and they were fair with floating staff that were scheduled for extra shifts. Travelers often take low acuity assignments here because staffing is good.
I was on the BMT unit. I had no prior oncol experience and the staff was so nice and helpful!

Med Surg ratios day and night shift 1:3 or 1:4
1:3 ratio on night shift
1:3 ratio on night shift
Loved working here, I was in oncology and it was a 3:1 ratio. Learned a lot, the physicians are awesome. Only bad thing is parking is an extra cost, but I was walking distant so didn't have an issue!
The PACU is huge, nearly 80 bays and an extended stay area in the center. The unit is controlled pretty flawlessly by a command center with several RNs and secretaries. They utilize a “bubble” structure where each leg of the unit has a ‘leader’ which is typically a higher seniority and experienced RN that helps, trouble shoots, and then rotates everyone out for lunches and breaks- which are scheduled. Typically travelers would get the short end of the stick for lunch/break slots but it was nice that your assignment would have an unburdened nurse to continue and facilitate care. Cafeteria was pretty nice for hospital food. Parking was 35$/day… pro tip: find an apartment with off street parking and bring your bicycle.
Post-partum. Extended for 8 months total. Rotating shifts. Loved working here! Union hospital, stuck to ratios, used EPIC, never floated, staff was so nice! Parking at night was free and honesty don’t remember what it was on days. Would go back again!
Very cliquey. The seniority thing is terrible because you will for sure FLOAT everyday. You will float mid shift. I could count the times I stayed in the unit I was contracted for. Rotating shifts is terrible. The senior night shift nurses will use and abuse you. Stay away unless you like the clique!
Working in the neuro ICU and was almost always with a heavy total cares doubles patient when I was not floated. They over staffed or someone picked up and travelers were first to go and last to be pulled back which I did not mind as the unit culture on the floor was great for staff but not as hospitable to others. I enjoyed all the ICUs when I floated to them. They all had a lot of structure that was lacking in neuro for some reason. They have a lot of experienced and knowledgeable nurses that were able to add their expertise which was great!
