staffing is definitely one of the worst aspects of working at meritus and, as of late, we’ve been calling for more and more agency due to poor retention. helpfulness and teamwork from coworkers will depend on what unit you go to. ICU, IMC and ED are very cohesive and full of team players- medsurg floors.. not so much. MD’s can be very difficult to get ahold of and can have major attitude/ego problems, worse than i’ve seen in other places.

One of the better ERs I’ve been to! Staff was friendly and helpful towards me. Area around the hospital is ok, but the town itself is kind of iffy, you just have to be careful where you stay!

It really depends on the unit. 5 East is terrible all around and management cares more about the white boards lol. Being floated around you can see how other units work. At times new grads have had to take up to 7 patients. Unacceptable. You must find coverage for your weekend no exceptions. Even 8 months out for a vacation. No exceptions. Most units schedule you every other weekend. The Peds unit rarely has Peds patients. If you’re going there for Peds, just don’t. Not worth it. Not worth your time. Starting rate for new grads is $34.00 hourly. $3.50 extra for night shift. The grass isn’t always greener on the other side, but as of right now I would not recommend meritus to my friends and I sure as hell would never want my family at 5 East or 3 East. Not to the fault of most nurses, but they have high turn over rates for a reason. The scheduling is so so. A lot of nurses only last a year or less. 2 East is supposed to be women’s and Peds, but the amount of CBI’s and septic patients that unit receives is crazy. 3 west is easy as it’s a rehab and joint unit. 5 south is okay, it’s the stroke unit. 5 west isn’t always open, but they get a lot of Covid. 4 south is kinda newer as a unit and actually Id never want my family there either. Awful. 2 south is one of the best units at meritus. It really depends on where you go! No clue about the ED. I hear it’s crazy haha.
